Rumors have begun circulating online that the Trump administration has instructed the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has stopped considering Russia a cyber security threat. This rumor is a portion of the larger narrative to paint Donald Trump had a Russian asset, or at the very least sympathetic to Russia.
This comes as Liesyl Franz, deputy assistant secretary for international cyber security at the state department listed in a speech countries whom the United States is prioritizing as threats. She listed China and Iran but did not mention Russia.
Liberals took this and ran with it, immediately alleging that the administration no longer considers Russia a threat. This was of course paired with Trump’s recent clash with Ukrainian President Zelensky.
In reality, this is a nothing burger. There is one singular mainstream news article that this story originated from, The Guardian. A London based newspaper notorious for trashing the President.
The Guardian hid at the end of their article and quote from CISA unilaterally refuting the allegations. promotion
“Cisa remains committed to addressing all cyber threats to US critical infrastructure, including from Russia. There has been no change in our posture or priority on this front,” said a DHS spokesperson.
It also denied that any memos naming China and Iran but not China came from the Trump administration. In fact, the head of CISA, Bridget Bean joined the organization in 2022 while Joe Biden was President.
