Harrison Butker, kicker for the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, announced this week the establishment of a political action committee called Upright PAC. Butker has recently stepped into the limelight of politics by giving a passionate commencement speech defending traditional values at Benedictine College and also by endorsing hometown Missouri Senator Josh Hawley.
Butker announced the PAC would work to encourage Christians to vote in the upcoming election. “We’re seeing our values under attack every day. In our schools, in the media, and even from our own government,” the PAC’s website reads. “But we have a chance to fight back and reclaim the traditional values that have made this country great. That’s why UPRIGHT PAC was founded.”
Upright PAC filed their registration with the FEC on September 23rd although information surrounding donations and expenditures were not yet made available. Red Curve Solutions, a popular Republican-associated consulting firm, filed the report indicating a connection between the two.
Butker is a conservative Catholic who only recently delved into the public space with his political views. He has been seen often this month at campaign events with sitting Missouri Senator Josh Hawley, who is facing a challenge from radical liberal Lucas Kunce. According to most public polling, Hawley holds a comfortable lead.
Hawley recently invited Butker on Fox News, in which he had this to say about the Chiefs kicker. “This is a guy who’s not afraid to speak the truth, who’s not afraid to say that we have got to stand on the principles that this country was founded on. And when the Left came after him in such a crazy, nutty way this last spring, he didn't give an inch.”
Butker sparked controversy from the far left this spring following a commencement speech he gave at Benedictine College where he criticized President Joe Biden’s stance on abortion considering Biden publicly claims to be a practicing Catholic. The left and the coordinated news media also attacked Butker for expressing his views on the traditional nuclear family.
This led to many calls for his release from the Chiefs, mostly from purple-haired liberals who have never watched the NFL in their lives. Their efforts to cancel Butker were unsuccessful. In fact, the NFL reported since the time of the speech, Butker's jersey sales have risen to 11th amongst all NFL players clearly showing the level of support Butker has amongst NFL fans.
The Chiefs players and their owner Clark Hunt have defended Butker strongly, emphasizing the right of every American to express their views publicly. “One of the things I talk to the players every year about at training camp is using their platform to make a difference,” Hunt said. “We have players on both sides of the political spectrum, both sides of whatever controversial issue you want to bring up. I’m not at all concerned when our players use their platform to make a difference.”
