Congress has certified Donald J. Trump as the next President of the United States. In an ironic twist, the person responsible for certifying his victory was his opponent, Kamala Harris. Just last week Harris claimed that she had not been defeated.
Trump won 312 electoral votes, while Harris took 226. 270 were required to win the election, a mark which Harris missed by almost 50 points. Trump also secured every single swing state, and the popular vote.
The ceremony was 40 minutes long, when Harris, the a president of the senate announced that Trump secured 312 votes, Congress roared in applause. A gavel was used to quiet the Pro-Trump crowd. A smaller applause was also given when Harris announced her losing 226 votes.
There were no objections from either chamber of Congress, and it doesn’t appear that there were any faithless electors. Every elector seems to have voted with the intended outcome of their state’s constituents.
Nancy Pelosi was in attendance, present just after a surgery, with a walker. Some X users snarked that Congress has truly become a “nursing home.”
