Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan has vowed to end family separation. It’s unlikely, however, that the left will be satisfied with the move. “Family separation” was the product of a Trump-era policy, that instead of detaining children in detention facilities with their parents, those children would be sent to HHS shelters. Trump figured that detention facilities resembling jails were not fit for children. The left was outraged by the separation.
The only way to resolve the separation issue is to send children to detainment facilities along with their parents. Neither option will work for the left. Nothing will until detention and deportations end altogether.
Homan announced that immigration officials will resume detaining children with their parents once the administration takes office on January 20th. He explained that illegal immigrants will not be allowed to stay in America just because they have a U.S.-born child. Aliens will be given the option to be deported with their anchor baby, or to be split up.
“You knew you were in the country illegally and chose to have a child - you put your family in that position,” Homan said.
A federal judge appointed by Obama in 2019 ruled that children could only be detained for 20 days. This duration was far to short for the deportation process to take place. Because of this, families were separated.
Homan also announced that worksite raids would be resumed when Trump took office. This is a practice that the Biden Administration has paused and not taken participation in.
